I'm looking for anything from $300-600. with 3GB+ and at least 200GB. my friend told me when I told her that idk what I should bring/pack besides clothes to bring everything that I have in my room. half of me thinks I don't have that much stuff and half thinks I have way too much for that. another thing I planned to do for a while now when I realized there's no Chase in Boston was make an account with Bank of America. and I took care of that today. I'll put all my workstudy money in that account. and I'll use that one more often once my chase debit card runs out of money. speaking of workstudy, I gotta get my workstudy job taken care of. tomorrow I'll probably go to the library for that. or maybe I'll do it tonight on my phone. speaking of library, I FINALLY returned those books I used last year for my Dante's Inferno paper. they were due February 26th. hmm. oh well. bottom line: COLLEGE LIFE: HERE I COME.

Biter.

Let it be known that I had a blog first.
Demetri Elias - demetrioselias.blogspot.com
Chris Schaller - chrisschaller.blogspot.com

check out my homies' bloggingtons.

Welcome to college:

1. I dreamt that I was laying in my bed facing the window. It overlooks the Hutchinson River / Parkway in the northeast Bronx. Then I noticed a grand piano floating in the sky very close to my windowpane. It had some writing on it but I don't remember what it said. After that happened, the skies got dark and it started pouring rain. At least that's what it looked like, but the next thing I know, a helicopter hovers by. Suddenly I feel the window and the entire building beneath me shaking, first a little bit and soon it was violent. I came to the realization that we were in an earthquake. I jumped onto the floor praying that nothing would fall on top of me. I felt the building rock back and forth, up and down for at least what felt like 60 seconds in dream time. The shaking slowed and slowed until there was one lump across the floor of my room where it looked like a beam would stick out of the floor. But finally, in one violent snap, the floor fixed itself and the quake was over. My first reaction was to look outside at any property damaged. The most noticable thing was the diagonal faultline that was exposed across the highway. I saw that the southbound lanes had shifted eastward along the line, connecting the northbound and southbound lanes of roadway. There were no cars moving so the fire department crews were called in to begin moving some of the rubble. Then I got up from the window and I ran around my house searching for the rest of my family and everyone was okay. This was a weird and graphic dream. Shoulda gone to work today. Haha.

Pssst:

Wow a lot has been going on. I guess I'm referring to Judge Sotomayor and the Hudson River accident. Those two stories come up in my mind. Also that tragic accident on the Taconic. Two very sad stories both with a very deadly ending. My humble condolences go out to all the families affected by these two tragedies, directly and indirectly. On the other hand, I am beyond proud and honored that a Supreme Court Justice has been selected who is both of Hispanic descent as well as grew up in my hometown, the Bronx.
As for myself, nothing much has been going on. I'm in a bit of a financial crisis at the moment, but in todays economy- who isn't? It'll be all taken care of this week when I get my paycheck. So that's no big deal. Work has been really relaxed and comfortable lately. Which is good, can't complain. I enjoy the company of the guys I work with. Also my soulmate* is back from her "vacation" in Brasil. She thinks she's so cool with her toilets flushing the opposite way and whatnot. Yeah whatever, lol. Glad she's back safe and sound because the swine flu has been bad down there. Psssh. Swine flu is sooo last spring.

Until next time, America [and beyond].

We're in a Recession.

I'm -$8.03. Besides the fact that there are very few people in Boston that are darkskinned. that's obvious. I noticed that a loooooot of the people here are skinny. Like skinny or in shape. Everyone in NYC is fat lol. I must say. NYC is a really obese or overweight city. Okay another thing I noticed is that Boston is filled with a lot of jerks. I'm so serious. I'm here typing this and the whole freaking street is wide enough for everybody to fit but this man finds the need to walk so close to me that I have to pull my phone back and let him pass. That's a fight on my block. Well let me back up. Millie finally did come in at like 12:49 or something. My dad was scared that he wasn't gonna be able to take a nap and be able to drove me to Boston. And he almost wasn't. At 1:30/2am we got home with Millie and she ate and right then and there I went to sleep because I knew that my dad would need me to help drive. So I went to sleep. Yummmm. At four thirty my dad woke us up, I got ready real quick and we left. I bought my dad a full tank of gas and we were outttt. We made a few stops along the way at rest stops and my stomach was killing me like crazy for some odd reason. I found out later that I had gotten my period. So we got to Boston at like 10am and that was super late but I was able to meet up with my group and finally eat lunch with them or whatever. I didn't meet anyone particularly. I must say. This orientation was pretty awkward. No one wanted to talk to anyone. Or maybe it was just me lol. I mean.. It was all small talk. And small talk doesn't get anyone anywhere. So I talked to some people but I didn't meet anyone to the point where i'm going to have like facebook friend requests. But nonetheless I had fun. You know? Make the best of things. And yesterday after lunch we started looking through like eleventeen million booklets and stuff to see what classes we wanted to take out of the ones that were not already filled. And we made a rough copy of these for us to use today. Also!! As i was walking around to all the workshops that they were hosting for us, it started POURING. Omfg. I was soooooooo soaked. It was ridiculous. I had to buy a new teeshirt. So today I woke up took a shower because I reeeally needed one. (I hadn't showered since wednesday morning!! Shhh). And then I was off to starbucks lol. Omgsh. I had never tried an iced coffee before and I usually like my coffee hot but it was such a hot day so I decided to be bold and try a traditional iced coffee. Ehh. It was alright. I didn't like it when the ice started to melt. So I drank like half of it and it was enjoyable and the other half was forcing it. Then I bought a vitamin water (power-C) and had that before I met up with my group for us to get to the GSU and formally register for classes. I must say we did all the hard work already yesterday afternoon so today wasn't so bad. We registered and then we walked back to get our official Boston University IDs. Lol. They're okay. I mean it coulda been worse you know?? But it wasn't. Can't complain. After final ceremonies we just left. Everyone went their own way. I got on the T and I had money to pay but I didn't know you had to get on at the front of the train so you can pay the fare. So I get off and I leave the station and my friend later tells me that I stole a ride lol. That's so bad. If this was NYC and a cop saw me on the train through the back door, I woulda gotten arrested or a ticket or both. So I lucked out. That was fun. I went downtown to Newbury street. Which is like a wannabe SoHo. And I bought jeans and sneakers for tomorrows outfit because I only brought enough clothes for one day. Since I'm soo soo ballin, it was no big deal yh'm?* overall Boston is great. I can't wait to start in the fall.

*=yaheardme?

It's been a while...

I just finished cleaning the mess that was in my room for the last like..... Forever and woaaaah. That was exciting. Lol. Now all I have to do is sweep the rug to get all the messy scraps off the floor. Then I'll take pictures of it lol. So I can see the big difference. It's quite exciting to clean. In a way. Because when everything is done you get to see the room in a completely different way.
Anyway I'm not going to make that all I talk about because I know I owe it to my readers who have noticed that I haven't posted in such a long time to explain my absence. Well basically all ive been doing as I said in an earlier post has been looking for a job. After a while one of my first leads on a job through the father of an alumnus of my school actually worked out and I've been working as a porter for him in his building in manhattan. So that's all I've been doing. Working and spending money. Lol. Speaking of spending money. The majority of the money I've made this summer actually went to purchasing a new phone: the iPhone. This is a phone I've wanted for some time now lol. Finally AT&T has let me make a plan with them. Umm. I went to the beach once this summer so far (shout out to Steph and Jenny) and yeah. We actually saw Brüno afterward. I'm going to leave out details about that movie lol. OMGsh. I also read the last book in the Twilight series. Breaking Dawn. That book was utterly amazing. Best book I've read in such a long time. (only book I've read in such a long time). Now I'm reading The Time Traveler's Wife. I'm almost done with it. It's actually really good as well. Hmm. Not much else to say. I'll write back soon.

Love, peace, and soul.

Yankee Game

I went to the Yankee game yesterday with my family, it was the first time in the new stadium. I must say this stadium is epic. it's so huge that you can buy the cheap nosebleed seats and spend the whole game sitting field level or the first level. Since the Yankees lost, <strike>what a surprise</strike> we the fans had a very fun time just doing the wave. And after about 7 or 8 times, we finally got everyone in the whole stadium to do it, starting from the upper deck. Cirque Du Soleil. I think of the four of us, my dad definitely had the most fun I must say. Furthermore, this past weekend I found myself downtown during the early morning hours, living it up. Friday/Saturday night I went to my friend Brittany's after-prom <strike>[even though I wasn't technically her date - she wanted me to be :) haha]</strike> Comedy Club party at Dangerfield's on 61 Street. And on Saturday/Sunday night I went to my friend Kimani's Graduation Party on 45 Street. I stopped by for a while, mixed in with the largest crowd of people ever, at the 52nd annual PR Day Parade. Due to the great Hispanic population, specifically Ricans, NYC has the largest of all PR Parades in the nation [besides the fact that NY is the best at everything.] find more history about the event here. I think it's just a lot of fun. Especially for tourists, just to get a taste of NYC culture and that kind of stuff. Words really can't describe this feeling that I've worked sosoSOOO hard for this and it's finally materializing right in front of my eyes. The whole graduation experience was greatly amazing and everything I had hoped for. Such an emotional point in my life that truly only comes once in a lifetime. My elementary school teacher once told us that it's hard to make elementary school friendships that last for your whole life, but that high school and college is where your real friends come. I can honestly say that she was very much correct. With all the other young men I have grown up with these past few years, I have every intention of keeping in touch. It was truly a pleasure fellas.

Phillipe the Tourist

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/SiIHVzjBHDI/AAAAAAAAAEY/KKRwzkvYOgU/s320/statue+of+liberty.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341840179210558514" />I'm trying to get a bunch of pictures of the City before I go away, for a few reasons. First, I want to go to all the places that I haven't gone, because I want to experience them. Second, I want to be able to compare parts of the City now, to the future, whenever I come back, in a year or four. So today I took the Ferry to SI and back, then walked up the East River to South Street Seaport [Pier 17]. After that I headed to the Brooklyn Bridge, walking to the train. I had a lot of fun in my first installment of Phillipe the Tourist - the Staten Island Ferry / Lower Manhattan. Here are a few of my favorites. Enjoy the rest here.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/SiIITXWR3tI/AAAAAAAAAEo/yqwZ-T2d47o/s320/sunset.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341841236792827602" /><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/SiIINLHxujI/AAAAAAAAAEg/XwgTjuDezHI/s320/statue+of+liberty+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341841130431560242" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/SiIIfSIRlnI/AAAAAAAAAEw/vsPvqKO__Cs/s320/the+city+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341841441550341746" /><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/SiIJApAonhI/AAAAAAAAAFA/eQ112s9JzT4/s320/brooklyn+bridge.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341842014627995154" />

How Co-op City has Changed

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/Sh9uhT4yQbI/AAAAAAAAADw/zRtTFRgmhcA/s320/FUM2007042Z00033-09.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341109201637884338" /> Co-op City - I have lived here for 15 years and I have seen this community become younger and younger. By that I mean more and more young couples moved in, had children, who in turn have been raised here. When I moved up here from the South Bronx in '94 it was basically filled with people who were in their later years and most of them were of the same ethnicity, white. Now a bigger percentage of the people growing up and living here are hispanic or black. They added more bus lines, I don't remember this many of them coming up this way. Also Bay Plaza has changed profoundly in these years. There's probably a website that has information on all of that. Specifically Section 5 in Co-op has gone through soo much landscaping that it's completely irrecognizable, honestly. Nothing like it used to be, but I wouldnt say it's worse. Theres a bigger and better greenway with a mile long bike/walk-path for people to use. There's also an outdoor calisthenic area. People have differerent opinions on Co-op but to me, it's moving in the right direction.

photos by martin fuchs
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/Sh9uEEtqoZI/AAAAAAAAADY/397s_d7xPXg/s320/800px-Co-op_City_spring.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341108699348509074" /><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/Sh9uNEJATGI/AAAAAAAAADg/tiEo5faR9eQ/s320/FUM2007042Z00023-11.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341108853813562466" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/Sh9uwxjv1lI/AAAAAAAAAD4/R4buS6k6Tfg/s320/FUM2008001Z00014-06.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341109467300746834" /><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/Sh9u6r02ibI/AAAAAAAAAEA/S3ultbdPK68/s320/FUM2008001Z00016-05.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341109637560568242" />

Unlocked Sidekick Slide

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/SiAG_-OvsDI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/8d2QftC-pHg/s400/screenshot.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341276854167777330" /> I think I may have the only Sidekick Slide that's unlocked and running on AT&T. This caught my eye in particular because of two reasons: 1. She's from the Bronx, and 2. She's Latino. Here's a small bio on her I found online. Sotomayor was born in the Bronx borough of New York City. Her father, Juan Sotomayor, a tool-and-die worker with a third-grade education who did not speak English, was from the Santurce area of San Juan. Her mother, Celina Sotomayor, a nurse, was from the neighborhood of Santa Rosa in Lajas, a still mostly rural area on Puerto Rico's southwest coast. They left Puerto Rico, met, and married during World War II after Celina served in the Women's Army Corps. Sonia was raised a Catholic and grew up in the South Bronx, a short walk from Yankee Stadium. In the 1960s the family moved to the Bronxdale Houses housing project and then to Co-op City, both in the East Bronx. Sonia was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at age eight. Her younger brother is Juan Sotomayor, who is now a doctor in Syracuse, New York. Sonia's father died at age 42, in part from heart complications, when she was nine years old. After this was when Sonia first became fluent in English. She was inspired to go into a legal career and become a judge by watching the Perry Mason television series. Sotomayor has credited her mother as being her "life aspiration".

This is the second person I know of that's Hispanic and from the Bronx that Obama has had his eye on. Earlier this year our President appointed former Bronx Borough President, Adolfo Carrion Jr. Here's a bio: on him. Adolfo Carrion knows a thing or two about city life. In addition to serving two terms as New York City's Bronx Borough President, he has a degree in urban planning and job experience as a minister and public school teacher in the Bronx, which is why Barack Obama has tapped him to serve in a newly created executive branch position — White House Director of Urban Affairs. Carrion: Has been president of the Bronx since 2001 and was re-elected in 2005. Is 47 and married to a lawyer. They have three daughters and a son and live on City Island in the Bronx. Born in Manhattan; his family moved to the northern borough when he was an elementary school student. His father was a minister and Carrion followed in his footsteps, working briefly as an associate pastor. He also worked as a public school teacher before going to graduate school. Majored in world religions and philosophy at Kings College in Westchester, N.Y. and has a master's degree in urban planning from Hunter College in New York City. Before his two terms as president of the Bronx, worked for the New York City planning department and served as a New York City Council member.
[i love the bronx.]

JOBS!

Oh! Traveling ith my great friends from YouthAction NYC, this was the first time I've ever done it. Although through most of it we were running away from the impending rainstorm, we made the best of it and had SOO much fun. Can't you tell? lol.
In other news, I made a Twitter account, I guess I fell into the fad. I also need some dress shoes for graduation! Knee Update: 3+ months. Feeling great, no pain, very little stiffness. I'm starting to jog short distances, aka running top speed for the bus. Sorry for the delay in a post, for those who actually check my blog frequently for updates.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 299px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/ShmI9sTnCLI/AAAAAAAAACw/htdYM7ulWvE/s400/4522_1091992424544_1368510100_30189535_5472935_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339449426671241394" />

NBA Predictions.

I'm feeling a little bit ambitious with these picks. I tried when reading them to think of perhaps an example of a certain subset, maybe predict why the number could have gone up or down. Frankly I think it was too too much information jumbled at once. I mean, for me at least, it would have been more productive and easier to analyze if the information would have been paralleled with some type of blurb about the changes in that particular area made by Obama. For example - the statistics about domestic issues, regarding the federal deficit, it would give a better picture to the reader about why the number had gone up so much. In general, a statistic I see loud and clear is his higher approval rating. I found another interesting article comparing Obama's 100-Day rating to Bush's. Not because I didn't have a good time - that would be a LIE. Honestly, this was such a great experience. I was amazed. Boston is such a great city (contrary to popular belief). About the campus and the school itself? I can't find the word to describe it. It's so warm and welcoming, I felt so at home. I could be walking with my host down the street towards the GSU or CAS or Warren Towers (where hopefully I'll be staying) and have people greet my host, or myself even. What did it for me was buying my hoodie(s). There's nothing else to say. It was great from beginning to end. I'm vising my new school - BU - for the Multicultural Blablaablaaahh Weekend. You don't even know how excited I am! Once I get all the paraphernalia that means it's like official. And I knooow my dad's going to be buying all kinds of stuff. I hope to meet sooo many new people. I don't even know if I remember what it's like to meet new people like randomly. It can only be positive right? Maybe I'll be able to meet up with some people I know. If not then OH well better for me so I can have a fresh start off the bat.

Current status: In a state of euphoria! But I'm happy that she's happy now, that she's with me and I'm freakin' out, because I'm just so lucky. Dr. King was a prophet for Black Americans in a country that boasted about an equality that his group of followers had never gotten to experience, but hoped to attain. In his final speech before his death, King said to his people, "What would happen to me from some of our sick white brothers? Well, I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn't matter with me now. Because I've been to the mountaintop. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. So I'm happy, tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord." As we move forward as a nation and as a people, we notice more and more that the 'melting pot' that describes our country becomes more and more like a 'salad bowl.' But it is very important and also it was Martin's Dream that all our nation's parts of the 'salad' come together truly as One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

UPSET

<img style="float:top; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 230px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2O674t--MEo/SdKnO0CWjsI/AAAAAAAAACY/WT8OQ-R8YYU/s320/upset.jpg.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319497982806494914" />
My Cinderella story has home to an abrupt end.

No hard.. feelings?

FOURSOME !

Dear Mr. Chatelain:

Congratulations! LOL. Honestly it's so inconvenient. But let me say, it's waay better now-a-days. I started physical therapy this week and also I finally took the surgical bandages and everything off [that very scary-looking picture is from shortly after that.] I wasn't able to complete my personal goal - to be able to walk before my birthday - and that was a little disappointing. But on the bright side, my knee's strength today compared to when I went to therapy on Wednesday is even stronger after two days. At this rate I'll be walking crutch-less by the end of next week [but obviously don't hold me to that]. I have to work on getting this swelling down!!

PS. ITS MY 18th BIRTHDAY TOMORROW!! - can't wait. SUPER exited. They're perfectly fine separately.

As a matter of fact, I set up this little vote/tally thingy to the right hand side of the screen on my blog and I'd like to know what my readers think when it comes to this very <strike>un</strike>important issue.

Martha The Ant

myself: how's about that story now?? :-D
erica: :-) Okay. Well. I'm going to tell you a story about an ant. :)
myself: what's the ant’s name!
erica: Ummm... Martha!
myself: Martha the ant.
erica: Yes.
myself: okay. gotcha
erica: Okay.
myself: I’ll be silent now
erica: Lol. So Martha is 6 years old. And she wants to learn how to skate. But... She didn't have any skates. :(
myself: mhmm *gasp*
erica: I know!! So yeah. Everyday, on her way home school she would a sporting goods store. And in the window there were these awesome skates on display... And they were her favorite color... Orange!!!!!! :-D
myself: oh boy :-p
erica: Lol
myself: [you still leave random words out, it's soo cute]
erica: Oops "on her home *from* school." Lol
myself: [still]
erica: "She would *pass* a sporting goods store" Lol :-D All better now??
myself: somewhat... lol, continue!
erica: Darn... Anywho! Passing by the store everyday made her want to skate even more. But the only way she could learn was if she had those skates. She had to have them!
myself: omfggg I want them too!
erica: Everyone else had boring black or white skates. But NO ONE had orange skates. So she imagined how great it would to have them. She knew she'd be the envy of the whole kindergarten.
erica: Be***** Grrrr >=[ I'm ruining my story!!! >:o
myself: shhh I didn't even notice it.
erica: Okay. *woosaaah* I'm better.
myself: yaaay
erica: She said to her mom "mommy, I want skates." But all her mom said was "you don't need any skates sweetie. You have a bike already." So now Martha is thinking *what kind of stupid idiot are you woman?! A bike is nothing like skates!* But since she's only 6 she can't say that to her mom. :-X
myself: lol... this Martha reminds me of a certain person I know.
erica: Lol. So she said to her mom "I know I have a bike. But I REALLY want to skate. It would be so super awesome if I had some skates!" But she said "no I'm sorry. No skates. Besides skating is dangerous."
myself: so, she would need 3 pairs seeing that she's an ant and whatnot
erica: no... 2 pairs. These ants walk upright.
myself: oohh she walks upright! yeaah... fresh
erica: So they only walk on 4 legs. :-) Yaaay. I love that you're smart.
myself: *smiles*
erica: Lol. So her mom told her she couldn't have skates because they're dangerous. But Martha couldn't figure out how her mother could think that skate are more dangerous than a bike.
myself: yeahhh bikes are serious!
erica: Right!
myself: I’m with her...
erica: So she just figured her mom was clearly off her rockers with that idea. :-) the next day on her way home from school, she begged her mother to just take her into the store and let her try on the skates
myself: mhmm... trying on the skates...
erica: after about ten minutes of begging and pleading...her mom finally took her into the store. when Martha slipped her feet into those skates she felt on top of the world. she tried to skate around the store a little to get the feel. but since she didn’t know how every time she took a step she would fall. so every time she fell and her mother saw the more her mother refused to buy the skates
myself: she's still skating in the store?
erica: no *time change*
myself: so her mom got her the skates?
erica: later that day when they had gotten home Martha attempted to ask her mother again if she would at least consider buying her the skates but still her mother said no
myself: oohh that answers me
erica: lol but still every time she asked her mother said "but u have a bike already Martha. I’m not buying u skates."
myself: hmm she should throw out the bike
erica: Martha was quite irritated by this... so she came up with a plan...
myself: *nods*
erica: she decided she would hustle... lol. her bike for some skates lol
myself: yeaaahh fresh *nods more*
erica: so when she went to school the next day she asked everyone who had skates if they would like to trade their skates for a bike.
myself: blaah noo. she needs the orange ones! sell the bike to a Japanese man!
erica: Japanese man? lol her teacher is a Japanese man... lol (I just decided that)
myself: I kneww it!
erica: well a Japanese ant* so yeah... she had no luck with the other ants in school. no one wanted to trade with her. so she tried the next plan. ask daddy.
erica: (are u sleeping?)
myself: (noo)
erica: (okay)
myself: daddy ant?
erica: yes. so she called her daddy. and cried and cried and cried.
myself: her daddy’s name is papi right?
erica: yes she a Hispanic ant.
myself: she a. lmaao.
erica: she's******* grrrrrr
myself: ... :-x continue the story my dear
erica: umm yes... *continuing* she explained to him how badly she wanted to have some skates cuz she really wanted to learn. and she also told him how her mother was being a big meanie and telling her that she didn’t need skates cuz she had a bike. so, like most daddies’ do, he gave in to his baby ant.
myself: papi comes through!!
erica: he promised her that by that weekend (the day is Thursday) he would get her skates. u can imagine just how excited she was. she definitely could not wait for the weekend to come. on Saturday morning she woke up extra early.
myself: lol for Saturday school?
erica: she’s 6. lol no! silly
myself: haaha.
erica: she was soooooooooo anxious for her daddy to get to her house.
myself: I loove this story oh my eff gee
erica: really? I’m glad u like it.
myself: yesssssss continue ! aah
erica: yes... so, she sat by the window just waiting to see her dad. when she finally saw him her face lit up with joy when she noticed a box that he was holding under his left arm.
myself: tampons!!!!!!!
erica: she’s freaking 6!! gosh no!
myself: that's like 34 in human years
erica: when he entered the house she quickly [and without hesitation] she pounced into his arms continuously thanked him. he handed her the box which was wrapped in the prettiest orange paper and a yellow bow.
myself: of tampons!!!!!!!!
erica: no! no tampons
myself: definitely tampons. sheesh okay miss chimpy, just bite my head off next time!
erica: she tore off the paper with much excitement. she flung off the lid.... and began to cry... these were definitely not tears of joy.
myself: *whispers* tampons!
erica: nope worse... plain... black... skates.. (-_-)
myself: oh my gosh.
erica: I know...
myself: she hates her life!!
erica: her father couldn’t understand why she was so displeased with her skates. screamed and shouted "I don’t want THESE skates!!"
myself: she's mean though, she never told him orange skates.. poor papi slash Martha
erica: [0_o] --> her daddy was confused but still he tried his best to console her. and when she finally told him which skates she wanted they rushed to the store to exchange. =] so she finally got her skates. so her dad said "let’s go to the park, okay?" and Martha replied "okay... I think I’ll ride my bike" :-D

****THE END****

- omgggggggggggggggg I loooooove it.

ACL Surgery - week 3

Sorry for the superwack picture, my T-Mobile dilemma has me using a waackk Sidekick 3. Anywaay, I now walk around the house with relative ease but only with the brace on and I still have a considerable limp that I'm trying to work on. I started going back to school this week, and the way things worked out, I ended up only going to two days of school. Next week looks like the same from over here. I'm trying to learn to walk without the brace [and fit into actual clothes not sweats!] by my birthday (3/21). That's my personal goal. Commuting to school was such an adventure! If you could imagine taking public transportation with crutches and a dead leg. -__- but I'm super glad that the crutches are over there and I'm over here. That means I'm one day closer to not using those horrible, yet Heaven sent, contraptions.

Moving forward, I'm definitely going to look into who invented crutches. And hopefully I'm able to get a new phone around my birthday. [And a car?!] Lastly, I'm working on fixing things with someone I've been thinking about a lot lately. Hope it works.

I'm a cannonball - better hope I don't fall right out of the sky through the roof of your garage.
the human broccoli

my story starts on a farm in southwest texas.. a farmer was going about his duty on the crops and saw one oddlooking plant one day.. a human broccoli. so he called the stork and the stork came and promised to find the baby girl a home with parents to love her and make her into a normal human. so the stork searched around the world for a deserving family and found the parents of the love of my life. they vowed to always love my darling shrub and keep her happy and blaaahblaahblah. as the years went by that brilliant plant grew to look more and more like her parents but mostly her mother, until one day she outshined everyone... literally - her smile shone upon the lives of many. until one day she brightened up my life.. i must say i had never known i could never love a vegetable so much.. but to her credit she really does my body good. and plus, i like the way she handle my thang. now one day, i promised her i'd be hers forever. and she blinded me with that brilliant beaming smile. and i was like double you tee eff. say it don't beam it! and she kissed me.
I hate T-Mobile.

I currently find myself phone-less and $98 poorer all because T-Mobile makes stupid decisions without telling me. I loove how they let me pay my bill [hence the lost $98] before they tell me some nonsense that my phone had an 'illegal activation' and that I would have to go 'get a refund and call Risk Assessment.' I don't know what this means. All I know is that A) I have no phone. B) It's SO hard to get a refund, ever. Let alone two months after I got my phone. And C) Someone at T-Mobile screwed up because I'm being charged twice on my card for the bill that they stole from me and this means my current balance has a negative sign before it. Am I being screwed over or WHAT?!

The sad thing is, I AM SO looking forward to the new Sidekick Blade that's coming out probably this summer, but I'm SO fed up with T-Mobile that I doubt I'll submit myself to this again.

ACL Surgery - week two

Here are some pictures that I took in the past two weeks of my knee. Looks waaay less FAT now.. lol. Can you believe they shaved 1/3 of my leg? When I found out I was SHOCKED!

As for the update: my knee is getting less swollen and I feel it getting stronger because I'm not supposed to bend it, hence the brace, but when I crutch myself around I feel my leg slightly trying to bend itself. I still hope I won't have to go to school next week, but only because I don't want to commute to Manhattan in crutches, and much less have to go downtown to do Christian Service. I think I could probably get the doctor to let me take another week off for recovery just so I can strengthen my leg in terms of bending and walking. It's not like I'm missing much in school anyway. Sheesh. But I digress.

My time at home has consisted of pain, Law & Order, Comedy Central, SportsCenter, and College Basketball. There's so much in New York City that people see and so much people don't see. I think that it's a problem when you can take a ten minute train ride - three, four stops at most - and go from some of the poorest and richest neighborhoods in the city. (/nation?) Politics is screwing so many people who don't even have a say.

What sparked this in me was watching the Bronx 12 news and seeing that 58% of people polled believed that the roads they travel were adequately plowed and snow-free. They showed a Metro North stop on Gun Hill Road, one of the main arteries in the North Bronx, and all you could see was a poorly 'shoveled' [trodden by pedestrians] sidewalk. But in the city, (I go to school on E 86th) it's never the case for me to find snow on the ground in the morning.

That's my opinion. And I think I can [try] to help, at least in my hometown. But I'm still very undecided.

ACL Surgery - week one

So, a while back I wrote a post about how I needed surgery on my knee to repair my ACL. Last friday - one week ago today - I had that surgery. I'm one week into the six-to-nine month [or nine-to-twelve month or whatever] rehab after the surgery. I must say, I feel a lot better than other parts of this week but I've never felt more pain before in my life. Monday was a KILLER. I had an appointment with the doctor to make sure there were no complications, and everything was fine. I was in soo much pain crutching myself from point A to point B in that hospital that I couldn't even sit in a wheelchair. They gave me painkillers and a brace that covers my entire leg, my new best friend lol. Anyway. Pain literally alternates, some days I'm in the 2-4 range and some days it's definitely 9-10++. It's pretty ridiculous. I can't even bend at the knee due to the brace, and I've iced my knee pretty much twice daily and that too feels sooo good until they take the ice off. That's another sort of pain - WOW. Lol, I could almost feel a sharp pain in my knee in agreement. As of now I'm in my bed, leg straight, I'm pretty comfortable in a scrunched way, and hoping I have better news to post next week.

I'm due back in school March the 10th - I don't know if I'll be walking by then, actually I KNOW I'm not. I gave a pretty good argument for why I should stay home a third week [I only have 2 days of classes that week so I won't miss much]. But hey we'll see how this goes. My counselor called my house randing about when I'll make up four or possibly six days of christian service. Maybe someone should reconstruct her ligament so she could see that's definitely LOW on my list of stuff on my mind right now. But I digress.

LOTS of cable is the best painkiller! My favorite new show is Important Things with Demetri Martin on Comedy Central!!

Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

Friday the 13th, February, 2009

JUG Day was a complete success. The most fun we've had all year and definitely the best JUG Day I've seen in my years at Regis.

JUG is like detention at my school. It stands for Justice Under God. JUG Day is the last day of second trimester, aka the last day that all the seniors are together in the school. A third of us is going to do full time Christian Service five days a week instead of school for third tri, another third will be in school [me], and the rest will be at a 9 to 5 internship. Since it's the last day, all the seniors wreak havoc around the school: making noise, dressing up in wacky costumes, and the like. The point is for all of us to have JUG together after school, and since the Dean knows it's all a joke we tend not to have such hefty JUG sentences (we actually served 30 seconds of JUG - only after the 20 minutes it took for the dean to go through all of our names).

The theme for JUG Day this year was "Animal Noise." [Which has a history in itself but I digress.] Everyone had on animal masks or regular costumes. We also called a last minute addition to the theme - scooters. Picture this, 70 to 80 seventeen- and eighteen-year-olds, zooming around the school in scooters. CRAZY.

At 1:13PM we scheduled to raid the quadrangle of the school, ONLY TO BE AMBUSHED by the faculty blocking off every entrance to the quad. Then we literally <strike>ran</strike> stampeded away from them as they chased us, which as you can imagine made everything funnier.

The picture above was taken right before JUG when we were all waiting outside the room. After JUG we ended up stampeding downstairs from the 5th floor to the quad. AMAZING. Definitely a highlight of my senior year at Regis.

College stuff !

I'm going to blame my lack of blog activity on this CRAZY college process. Part 1

Wakes up. Looks around. The darkness blinds him. He hears a faint rhythm that begins to become clearer and clearer. Almost unconsciously he removes the headphone from his ear, the only device that seems to help him sleep soundly and help him escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As he begins to orient himself to his surroundings, he scans the room for the familiar gleam of moonlight through the break in the shades. It shines on the clock that would give him a sense of time and direction. After blindly staring at the hands of the clock he realized that it was way too early for him to be awake, and that he was wasting his own valuable sleeping time by staying awake. He feels around for the pillow, his vehicle back into Dreamland. Closing his eyes he let out a satisfying sigh of relief and security. In the morning he would have to go out into the world, regardless of how safe he felt within the constraints of his own bed. It was as if in his slumber nothing could go wrong. Not a soul could do him harm in his own dominion. He realized that he will always find comfort in the familiar: the safest place he had known.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://uptownvoice.blogspot.com/2008/12/and-then-i-told-her-to-close-her-eyes.html' title='And then I told her to close her eyes. "how do you feel about the president being black" like it's a legit question.. but they don't care, they're just being stupid. i think the fact that i was very active in this election made me slightly arrogant when it comes to people's involvement in politics and this election. that's why i asked people the question, "how does barack obama's election change your life" because i think it's really hypocritical that weeks ago some people say they don't know and they don't care but then they're like "yaey he's president woo hoo" and the fact that they say they "don't know".. affirms my assumption that they really don't care. but it's not just them personally.. like i asked a few people and they're all like.. "yaey obama.. he's black woo hoo.. we won" and they don't really know what its all about.. like obama went through way more than that.. so that he could only be remembered as "the first black president" he doesn't want to be JUST that. in MY opinion. and what does it mean to me that he won? and how does it change my life? well i think it undoubtedly changes americas outlook on the cultural differences in this country. being that he is HALF BLACK AND HALF WHITE.. he stands as a good sample of the diversity that we are blessed with in this country. and he also epitomizes the american dream. and he's living proof that indeed this is the land of opportunity and that anyone can do anything in this country.. and no matter how cliche it sounds... they can do w/e they put their minds to. and THAT'S what this election means to me. it changes the world i live in.. and makes people like me.. those of color.. have some kind of hope in our own lives that we too.. can be barack obamas. ambassadors of our race, and rise above cultural barriers to become more than what anyone could fathom. but that's how i think. :)

The Public and Sarah Palin

i like to sit back and observe the world around me. that's what compelled me to go around and ask people "what do you think about sarah palin" and document their responses. the follow up question was "how would you feel about having her in the oval office?" boy is this going to be fun. a little background on the people i asked. they're all female non-voters with ages ranging 14 to 19 from all over the country.

- I don't know ... I don't really know anything about her. I don't pay much attention to politics honestly. I think it would be cool to have a woman in that position..
- Who's that? She's a bxtch. Lol She looks young though... But, I don't like republicans. Well I don't think she's good enough. Didn't se say she was against gay people getting married?? I think they have as much rights as us straight people do.
- I think shes slick and conniving. I don't even know what I would do but like I said she's so sneaky..and I think she got lucky with this nomination.
- who the heck is that? umm sweety I don't watch that stuff I don't know nothing about her but is she like the first woman to be a republican vice president?
- I really don't kno I'm not much into votin n everything.. I wouldn't mind [having her in the oval office.]
- I don't like her.. idkk I wouldn't want her there. I don't really like any of da candidates
- She's a goos speaker & she's smart but she's not ready to be vice president. She doesn't have that much experience like she doesn't know. I wouldn't like it but I wouldn't stress it. She's still not a bad person & she's a strong woman
- iono really. iono.
- I don't like her lol I'd hate it
- I dont like her
- I BELIEVE DAT SHE IS NOT GUD 4 THE U.S...SHE DIDN'T HAVE A GUD IMPRESSION ON A LOT OF PPL...SHE SUX... I dnt want her anywhere in the political area...she shud stick 2 teachin and given shout outs in canada
- Wh0s that. 00h idk isnt she vice presidental candidate 4 macain.. ummmmm i ratha hav sum type of lady in office then frikkin mccain so im all for her. {i then told her that she's on mccain's ticket.} She sucks
- Honestly I don't think shes a competent vice presidential candidate &it scares me a candidate for presidency would make a decision so dangerous just 2 get vots. I would be worried
- idk shesz iightsz i dont like any of our candidatesz xcept obama even tho he is jepordizin him & his famsz ju actually tink i follow wah those 2 do no idk wah they viewsz or campaignsz r for jus obama...
- she`s the typical white woman . i`d feel upset, but what can i do about it .
- who's that?? I don't like her! she never knoo wat she talkinq about I watched one of the debates &+ she was like I may not answer ur questions as u or the people may wanna hear but I answer them to the best of my knowledge.
- I hate her. She's so stupid. I wouldn't be in the states. I'd move to europe.
- well im democrat all da way so i rly dont care bout her. i wouldnt feel safe cuz she is gunna turn dis country upside down she has some experience buh i dont feel like shes ready to run a whole country.

Featured Video - Get out the vote: Sarah Palin's Biggest Opponent Yet.

Watch the video, NO I am not referring to Katie Couric.

Spread the word. (those horseshoe shaped things on either side of the tear.) today is the third time after the original injury that i repeated the injury, perhaps tearing it even more. by my first MRI, the doctor said that it may have been partially torn but either way i would have to undergo reconstructive surgery to place a faux ACL, in layman's terms- a strip of ligament from the other huge ligament in the knee, and 9 to 12 months of rehab to make the reconstructed ligament back to almost 100% because it would be used to functioning as the ACL. anywaayy. the first time i messed it up, i was reenacting my friend's dodging of a flung bottle cap. it popped lightly out and back in. (because the ACL is what holds the knee in place from going directions it's not supposed to go.) the second time was when i was playing volleyball (bad idea) and i kinda landed wrong. mucho pain. today was probably the worse since the real thing. playing basketball (my sport that i legitimately haven't played in more than a year) and after a good 30 minutes of playing, was the instant that i am very much regretting right now. i currently am running on two advils to numb the pain a whole lot, and my knee is on ice as we speak.

note to self: please stop hurting yourself.

Featured Video: Why Vote - Youth Vote Project

I'm proud to announce my first installment to the Featured Videos category. I was honored to have interacted with this program in the past and hope that through YouthAction and onward I can continue. They did a really good job with this message and this entire video, and I'm SO JEALOUS that YouthAction did not make a video like this already, but we'll get on it, I promise you.

As for the YVP, KEEP IT UP!! I'm so gassed right now, I watched the video like, "I know him, I know her!" It's really cool what you guys are doing, and programs like ours should work together more to make our very strong message heard.

an online journal?

i'm an avid blogger. there, i said it. my firefox is filled with bookmarks to all kinds of blogs, including that of my good friend lisa. so i've been thinking for a long time, whether i should make a blog or not. so a while ago i made one. i felt like it wasnt good enough because people werent looking at it. then i just decided that, i'll use this more as a journal.

an online journal? what kinda sick idea is that? why would someone put their business online? i really dont care. sounds blunt but hey, it's true. there's nothing to hide. my life is like an open book. people know me that i dont even know that they know me. trust me. that makes me GOL (giggle out loud). in the words of Nero, "my mind is an abyss, you're bound to get trapped."

some of these may be hard to swallow, but just let it marinate.
get it? got it? good.
